The United Stated Dressage Federation (USDF) and the National Walking Horse Association (NWHA) announced that they are cooperating in an effort to educate walking horse owners about dressage and provide information about education opportunities to both memberships.

"There has been a tremendous surge in interest from our members about using walking horses for dressage and we thought it important that our members receive the correct information about this discipline," stated NWHA executive director Don Vizi.

"While we recognize that walking horses will not compete in USEF licensed and USDF recognized dressage shows, this versatile breed can benefit from the fundamentals of dressage, no matter what discipline the owner pursues," added Vizi.

The organizations have agreed to share educational event dates and auditing information: USDF about the "L" education judge program and the Instructor Certification program and NWHA about educating current USDF "L" program graduates regarding judging walking horse dressage tests for graduates who express interest.

"USDF has many educational opportunities available. We hope to share everything from clinic auditing to books and materials from our bookstore to encourage walking horse owners to take up dressage," stated Karin Glassman, USDF Director of education and programs.

Founded in 1973, the United States Dressage Federation is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to education, recognition of achievement, and promotion of dressage. For more information about USDF membership or programs, visit www.usdf.org, email usdressage@usdf.org, or call (859) 971-2277.
